Trinity Round-Up, November

This page has various bit of news from the November 2013 print edition of The Spire.

Stop Hunger Now

Each day world-wide, 25,000 people die from hunger-related causes. Trinity is joining forces with area churches, mosques, temples and community groups to fight hunger. Our goal is to package 300,000 meals in one day.

We’ll package nutritious meals of grain, soy and vegetables to be sent to feed children in schools in Africa and Central America.

 Book Chat

Are you an introvert? Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, by Susan Cain, argues that society dramatically undervalues introverts. As Harvard professor Rosabeth Kanter says: “Gentle is power. Solitude is socially productive. These counter-intuitive ideas are among the many reasons to take Quiet to a quiet corner and absorb its brilliant, thought-provoking message.” Join us in the Trinity Library at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, to discuss the book and enjoy fellowship and dessert! Book Chat will break for the holidays in December and pick up in January with My Beloved World, by Sonia Sotomayor. To be added to the email list, contact Kathy Maher (

Trinity’s Memorial Fund

Did you know that in The United Methodist Church, All Saint’s Day is observed on the first Sunday in November to remember deceased members of the local church congregation? That makes this a perfect time for you to honor someone whose life touched yours.

Trinity has long had a “Memorial Fund” set up for making a donation to the church as a tribute to that special person. This can be done easily by check or through the Trinity UMC website ( Please think about honoring someone you cared about with a memorial gift.

The Memorial Committee’s latest report is that gifts have recently been received for Carolyn Umstott, Kathy Rasmussen and Dave Jeremiah. The Book of Memory in the Family Lounge keeps an ongoing list of donors and the persons they memorialized. Take a few minutes to stop and read the names in the glass case.
