Why Is Being Patient So Hard?

Henny Gilmer, Trinity Church mascot

Hello to all the kids of Trinity Church. I hope you are having a great summer. I have a birthday this month. I’ll turn a year old on August 13.  I’ve also been busy taking obedience classes this summer. Do you know what those are? They’re kind of like school except that my parents go with me. The teacher is showing my mom and dad how to train me to do things like how to walk on a leash without pulling, and why I shouldn’t jump on people when I meet them. I’m also learning how to do things like sit and stay when my parents do hand signals. (That’s my favorite lesson, so far.)

Sometimes I get impatient when the teacher is trying to teach me something new. Does that ever happen to you? It can be hard sometimes when all I want to do is run around and play but my parents want me to sit still and be quiet. I’m learning how important it is to listen to my teacher and parents.

I was wondering if the Bible says anything about being patient. It does! We can read about patience in the book of Romans. This book is really a letter written a long time ago by a man named Paul. In the letter, he writes this: “Be patient in trouble and keep on praying” (Rom. 12.12). It’s pretty cool that in this one sentence Paul tells us to do two big things: be patient when things are not going our way and keep on praying.

Can you think of a time when you had to be patient? Maybe you had to wait a long time for something. Maybe you had to be super quiet. Paul tells us that sometimes we do have to be patient in order to do the right thing. But he also tells us how to do that: keep on praying. Good advice. Thanks, Paul!

Have a super awesome rest of the summer and remember my motto: Paws for Jesus.
