Join Pastor Jim for Bible Study on The Apocryphal Jesus. This video series, presented by The Ohio State University professor, Dr. David Brakke, will examine the non-canonical writings about Jesus, his family and the early apostles. These writings provide historical evidence for the diversity of early Christian thought. Sundays at 9:30 a.m., Mondays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. This week: Jesus & Mary in the Proto-Gospel of James

Acolytes & Crucifers Needed: Children and youth in Pre-K through 12th grade are invited to help lead our 10:30 worship as acolyte (light candles), crucifer (process with cross) and Langley Bell Ringer. It’s easy to sign up, just visit bit.ly/trinityacb.

Altar Flowers: To sign up, please visit the notebook outside the chapel or bit.ly/altarflowers2017. The link includes 2018 dates.

Crafts for a Cause is Trinity’s ministry to local hospitals and shelters. We’ll be making comfort pillows, dolls, blankets and hats at two work sessions this month: Monday, April 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 124. Help is needed with cutting fabric, stuffing pillows, sewing and assembling girls’ dresses. No skills required, just helping hands.

If you know of someone in the hospital or recovering at home, Crafts would be happy to send them a comfort pillow. Trinity will provide Mother’s Day gift bags of toiletries for Martha’s Table in May. If you’ve been collecting travel-size toiletries, including shampoo, soap, lotion and dental items, please bring them to the church by next Sunday. Thank you! For more information, contact Molly Sprouse.

Music Notes: The Prelude was arranged for organ in 2011 by Charles Callahan and is based on a melody by Joseph Renville, a 19th-century interpreter for the Dakota people in Minnesota. The Anthem is a 1984 setting by John Carter of the well-known spiritual from South Carolina’s Sea Islands; its Gullah title means “Come by here.” The Offertory comes from Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s 1828 Klavierschule; Hummel studied with Mozart and was a friend of Beethoven and Schubert. The 1704 Postlude is from the first opera by 19-year-old George Frideric Handel. A rigaudon or rigadoon is a lively Baroque dance in duple time from Provence; other notable rigaudons have been composed by Purcell and Rameau.
