At Trinity UMC, there are no people more precious to us than our children and youth. Indeed, Jesus said to his disciples,
“Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16 NRSV.
Those of us who have the privilege of working closely with our children and youth also have the obligation to protect them by periodically reaffirming our understanding of the Trinity UMC Child Protection Policies and Procedures, attending both in-person and online training sessions, and by signing our Policies and Procedures document.
To fulfill that obligation for 2017, Suzanne Richards, a member of our Board of Trustees, will be conducting three brief (no more than 30 – 45 minutes) in-person training sessions in Langley Hall at 9:30 a.m. on 3 separate Sundays: September 17, October 15, and November 5. If you are a member of church leadership, work as a Sunday School or youth educator or trainer, or are a member of the church staff, please plan to attend any one of these training sessions. While not required, anyone else who would like to strengthen their ability to support the health and welfare of the children in our community also may attend.
If you have any questions, please contact Suzanne at 908-202-4227 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ours is the responsibility and opportunity to protect the gift God has bestowed upon us.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” John 31: 34 NRSV
